The PML Guide
Opinions Are Free
Â
Are you tired of taking the same few pieces to contest, waiting around for the repetition rule to reset for your favorite music?  Or worse, hearing the same ones over and over again as a judge?  The PML Programming  Guide started from pure curiosity and a desire to truly discover everything that was in the Texas Prescribed Music List.  At the time this was more than 1300 selections and millions of program possibilities.  I wrote down my personal notes and shared them with whoever was interested.  I was shocked to discover it made its way around the state.  But my opinions and hot takes come from a place of personal taste, musical experience, and the teaching bubble I've had in my career.  I had no idea if any of the guide was actually helpful.

The goal of the guide is to encourage fellow directors to share a greater variety of music with their students.  I'm honored if it has helped my fellow directors in any way, or provided any small amount of esoteric  entertainment.  Scoredatara is the next step in giving orchestra directors the confidence to program music they never have before.
